I already tried to whiten my teeth
at a dentist’s office but had sensitivity problems.
How is this treatment different?
The active principle of the photodynamic action (hydrogen peroxide) is found in all professional whitening treatments and has been used for decades.
However, thanks to photodynamic technology and luminous activation of the active principle, the amount of time the whitening gel remains in contact with the enamel has been reduced from more than 10 minutes to just a few seconds.
This prevents teeth from dehydrating, the main cause of post-treatment sensitivity. In fact, unlike traditional treatments, the BlancOne photodynamic treatment does not require any desensitisation.

Is photodynamic whitening safe
for teeth and gums?
Yes. Clinical tests conducted at the University of Vienna have demonstrated that the BlancOne photodynamic treatment does not cause any morphological changes in the enamel, and no significant temperature increase in the pulp chamber (the vital part of teeth). Unlike home treatments with bleaching trays, during office treatments a barrier is applied to protect the gums, which are particularly sensitive to the whitening active principles.

What are “white shades”
and how are they measured?
The dentist uses a shade guide to determine teeth shade.
This guide represents the natural shades of teeth, dividing them by shade (A-D) and intensity (1-4). For whitening treatments, the shade guide is reordered from the darkest shade (C4) to the lightest (B1).

Vita and Vitapan are trademarks registered by Vita Zahnfabrik, AG, Germany.
Therefore, for a whitening treatment during which, for example, the shade changes from A3.5 to A1, the teeth were whitened 10 shades. Recently, with the development of professional teeth whitening treatments, shades whiter than B1 have also been obtained, for which now there are shade guides that include 3-4 white shades in addition to the 16 natural shades of the VITA guide.

How long does the whitening last?
The shade of white obtained after whitening depends a lot on personal habits. For example, it tends to last less with smokers than non-smokers.
Given that the shade will not return to the one prior to the whitening treatment, there will be a certain degree of regression in 2 to 3 years.
The use of a maintenance product (such as the BrightOne pen) will prolong the effects of the professional whitening treatment, which can also always be repeated.

Is it necessary to follow a special diet
after the treatment?
No. Since the enamel is not dehydrated, no special diet consisting of “white” foods is required after the BlancOne whitening treatment. This means no change in personal habits.

What is the relationship between smoking
and whitening?
Normally, it is recommended not to smoke after a whitening treatment.
With the BlancOne treatment it is recommended not to smoke for a couple of days because smoke interacts with the whitening active principles. If smoking cannot be avoided, and because the interaction occurs while exhaling, it is recommended to exhale through the nose for a couple of days after treatment.
Smoking, in addition to being harmful to health, will also reduce the whitening effect over time.

Is it true that the treatment requires
new restorations to guarantee uniform whitening?
The BlancOne whitening treatment, like all whitening treatments, only affects natural teeth. Because teeth in a restoration will not change colour, the front teeth of these restorations should be made with a lighter shade after a whitening treatment. When making an aesthetic restoration it is always recommended to whiten teeth first and make the reconstruction directly with a lighter shade.

Is a professional whitening treatment expensive?
No. In the past, these treatments were not widely available, required the use of expensive equipment and, in general, were the prerogative of VIPs.
Today, the cost of a professional teeth whitening treatment is very similar to what many people spend in just a few months on personal care products and treatments (hair stylists, beauticians, gyms, spas and cosmetic products). Some centres offer packages that include a cleaning and/or home maintenance.
Being a professional treatment the cost may vary based on the protocol used and the clinical case. In general, the standard protocol includes 4 cycles during the same session, however stronger pigmentations may require an addition 1-2 cycles that may also have to be localised. In other cases, it would be preferable to carry out the treatment in two sessions.
The best thing to do is to make an appointment for a preliminary check-up, which is generally free of charge, and ask for an estimate.
